What is an intestinal adenoma?

Intestinal adenoma refers to an intestinal adenoma, a benign tumor that occurs in the intestinal mucosa. Intestinal adenoma is a benign tumor occurring in the intestinal mucosa epithelial hyperplasia, the etiology of which is still unclear. It mostly occurs after the age of 40, and the most favorable sites are rectum and sigmoid colon. If the patient’s tumor is relatively small, and does not cause local compression, generally will not appear obvious clinical symptoms, so do not need to carry out special treatment, but need to be followed up regularly to avoid aggravation of the condition. If the tumor is relatively large or persistently enlarged, patients may experience obvious clinical symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal distension, and in severe cases, intestinal obstruction may occur. Currently the main treatment is polypectomy through colonoscopy, and if necessary can be treated through open surgery. Patients suffering from intestinal adenoma should go to the hospital for examination in time and be treated according to the examination results under the guidance of the doctor in order to avoid delaying the condition.
