The procedure of gastric tube insertion is as follows: 1. fully inform the patient of the necessity of the gastric tube, and relieve the patient’s tension and anxiety. 2. ask the patient to be in a semi-recumbent position with the head to the side, and enter the gastric tube through the patient’s nostril after applying paraffin oil. 3. when the gastric tube enters the nasal cavity, the patient will often have coughing symptoms, so ask the patient to breathe deeply. When the gastric tube reaches the epiglottis, ask the patient to do swallowing action to facilitate the smooth entry of the gastric tube into the esophagus. 4. Once the gastric tube enters the esophagus, the patient’s coughing symptoms will be significantly improved, continue to encourage the patient to relax and breathe deeply, stop the operation when the scale of the gastric tube reaches 50-60 cm, and fix the gastric tube to avoid dislodgement. 5. Ask the patient to protect the gastric tube when turning over and moving around to avoid dislodging the gastric tube, which needs to be placed again. The tube should be placed again.
