1.Why must cystoscopy be done after bladder cancer surgery? Are there any other tests that can replace cystoscopy?
About 15-50% of patients will have recurrence after electrosurgery for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, and most of them will have recurrence within 2 years. Regular cystoscopy can effectively and timely detect small recurrent tumors, so that electrodesiccation can be performed again; if not detected in time, total cystectomy or even life-threatening metastasis may be required. This shows that regular cystoscopy is very important!
There is no alternative to cystoscopy and cystoscopy is still the gold standard for post-operative review.
2. How many months does cystoscopy need to be done and for how many months at the longest?
Within 2 years 3 months/time, 3-4 years 6 months/time, after that 1 year/time.
3.Can I have cystoscopy for urethral deformity and stricture? Can I do it for severe prostate enlargement?
Cystoscopy can be done as long as the cystoscope has access to the bladder, especially with the advent of the flexible mirror, which has increased the conditions for use. However, if severe prostatic hyperplasia, often secondary to hematuria, it is best to be hospitalized for examination, which can easily induce bleeding, at least a soft cystoscopy should be used, otherwise the examination will be less effective.
4. Can patients with inflammatory diseases of the urinary system have it done? Can it be done for those with STD?
Cystoscopy is not recommended for patients with routine infections, but anti-infection treatment should be given first; when special infections (tuberculosis, etc.) are suspected, cystoscopy is also a diagnostic option.
It is possible to examine patients with STDs, and the sterilization of the instruments is very strict.
5. Do obesity, diabetes and other systemic diseases have any effect?
There will be no significant effect.
6.Does your department currently use hard or soft cystoscopy, and can it be painless?
Our department has all adopted soft microscopy, basically there is no pain.
7.Do patients who need to take tissue biopsy need to do rigid microscopy?
No. The biopsy can be done under soft microscope, so there is no need to change the hard microscope.
