Can myocarditis be cured?

Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the heart muscle following an infection, the most common thing that happens is viral myocarditis due to a viral infection. As with other inflammatory diseases, most myocarditis can be cured with aggressive treatment. In patients with no symptoms or only mild symptoms of infection, myocarditis can heal on its own in 1 to 2 weeks with bed rest or symptomatic treatment, and long-term medication is not necessary. Some patients with mild cardiac symptoms such as malaise, chest tightness, palpitations, etc., with active symptomatic treatment, these symptoms will disappear after the myocardial inflammatory response is over, and clinical cure is achieved without the need for long-term medication. In case of severe cardiac symptoms, severe impairment of cardiac function and malignant arrhythmias, the prognosis is life-threatening in the acute phase, and the prognosis depends on the recovery of cardiac function; patients with normal cardiac function tend to recover better; patients with poor cardiac function still have a high long-term mortality rate and need long-term medication. Long-term follow-up is recommended for all patients with myocarditis, with regular clinical evaluation, electrocardiogram and echocardiogram, and cardiac magnetic resonance examination if necessary, in order to detect problems in time for treatment. Most patients with myocarditis can be cured with timely detection and active treatment; the prognosis of patients with myocarditis depends on the patient’s specific situation and long-term follow-up is recommended.
