This article only provides some guidelines for patients with superficial head and facial burns (hot water, curling iron, hot oil, sunburn, etc.). If accompanied by inhalation injury and large flame burns on the head and face, please go to hospital for treatment in time. 1.Healing process Head and facial burns are easily swollen and generally start to improve after 2 days. Mild burns on the head and face generally take about 10 days to heal. The sign of healing is that the scab falls off and new pink skin grows under it without exudate. Afterwards, the new skin will gradually darken, slowly become darker, and then slowly return to normal, eventually becoming the same color as the surrounding skin or a slightly different shade of color. This process is mainly related to the severity of the injury, but also with the patient’s physical condition, individual differences are great, as short as 3 months, as long as a year, generally need six months. 2.FAQ 1)Should I break the blisters? Try not to break the blister, in case it breaks by itself, gently push it with a cotton swab, if you can’t get the exudate, don’t force it, because the exudate may have solidified. 2) What are the taboos? Eat less spicy, seafood, alcohol and other irritating and allergenic foods. Smoking and alcohol abuse are prohibited. You can eat more protein-based foods to promote wound healing. The wound around the mouth should be protected from food contamination. 3) Can I wash my face and take a bath? Touching water on the wound surface does not necessarily cause infection, but it is important to note that wiping can cause pain. Prompt drying after touching water can effectively prevent infection. 4)Will there be after-effects on the eyes and ears? 3. Treatment Due to the physiological and anatomical structure, facial wounds are generally treated with exposure therapy, i.e., without any dressing coverage, using only external spraying and topical application of medication. If there is any exudate, please use clean cotton swab or gauze to absorb it in time to avoid the formation of dry scabs covering the trauma. Try to avoid food contamination of the perioral wounds. Try to avoid the inflow of blistering fluid in the eye and ear area. Give topical application of growth factors 4-5 times a day, supplemented by topical application of gel-like medication. Avoid pressure on both ear wounds during sleep. In the early stage, please try not to lie flat and keep the head and face above the heart level to reduce edema. 4. Scar prevention measures Scar prevention treatment can usually be started about a week after healing. For details, please refer to my other article “Treatment of scar (scar) growth”. For superficial burns, depigmentation is the main treatment; for deep burns, prevention of scar growth is the main treatment. It is important to note that multiple creams can be applied daily, but they should be spaced out and not applied two at the same time. Before each use, the previous use of drugs should be fully washed.
