Ankylosing spondylitis, known in Chinese medicine as paralysis, is a painful condition caused by a blockage of blood and Qi. In young patients, ankylosing spondylitis is mainly characterized by inflammation of the sacroiliac joint and severe localized pain. The treatment of ankylosing spondylitis in TCM includes various treatment modalities such as internal and external treatment, and combined with Western medicine immunosuppressive therapy has certain advantages, which can largely relieve the patient’s symptoms, but for patients with advanced disease, the symptoms usually cannot be relieved. Therefore, for ankylosing spondylitis, the earlier it is detected and treated, the better the results.
