What is the pain in my lower left abdomen when I cough?

Left lower abdominal pain due to coughing is most often associated with increased abdominal pressure due to coughing, which dilates the abdominal wall or compresses the intra-abdominal organs. Possible causes include: 1) skin or muscle injury to the abdominal wall; 2) intestinal spasm; 3) inguinal hernia; 4) inflammation or tumour of the abdominal cavity. If the pain is mild and transient and resolves on its own, it can be observed. If the pain is severe, persists without relief or worsens progressively, it should be taken seriously and the child should be seen by a doctor as soon as possible.
