What Causes Nasopharyngeal Pain

Nasopharyngeal pain is usually caused by an attack of acute nasopharyngitis. Acute nasopharyngitis is often secondary to acute rhinitis, sinusitis, and acute tonsillitis, and when repeated inflammation stimulates the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, it leads to congestion, edema, exudation, and hyperplasia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Patients will experience dryness, itching, pain, and foreign body sensation in the nasopharynx, accompanied by yellowish purulent secretions, and some patients will experience tinnitus, hearing loss, and ear stuffiness. Patients need to go to the hospital for a detailed examination of electronic nasopharyngoscopy and blood routine to confirm the diagnosis. In terms of treatment, symptomatic anti-inflammatory treatment is needed, using antibiotics, along with the use of nebulized inhalation to reduce the congestion and edema of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, and a light diet, which will lead to a gradual cure.
