Pulse is the arterial pulsation, the examination can choose the radial artery, brachial artery, femoral artery, carotid artery or dorsalis pedis artery, etc., of which the radial artery is the most commonly used. The checking method is to put one hand palm up on the table, and put the ring finger, index finger and middle finger of the other hand vertically on the radial artery pulsation where it is most obvious, usually at the upper outer 2cm of the wrist joint, and press down gently to feel the radial artery pulsation.
During the examination, attention should be paid to the pulse rate, rhythm, tension and elasticity of the arterial wall. Normal adult pulse rate is 60~100 beats/minute in quiet and awake condition, older people are slower, women are slightly faster and children are faster.
Various physiological and pathological conditions or the effects of drugs can also make the pulse rate faster or slower. In addition, the pulse rate of both hands should be observed to see if they are the same. Generally, the strength and frequency of the pulse of the right and left hands are basically the same.
If you find any abnormality in your pulse rate, you should go to the hospital in time for a complete examination to determine the cause of the disease and then give targeted treatment in a timely manner.
