There are many causes of right ankle swelling and pain, including ankle impingement syndrome and lateral collateral ligament injury of the ankle. 1. Ankle impingement syndrome: Various reasons cause extrusion, friction and impingement in the ankle joint. It includes anterior-external, anterior, anterior-inferior and posterior ankle impingement syndromes. (1) Anterolateral ankle impingement syndrome: it includes two parts, i.e. lateral and lower tibiofibular joint impingement. It is mainly bony impingement and soft tissue impingement. (2) Anterior ankle impingement syndrome: anterior impingement is bony impingement, and anterior impingement bony impingement is caused by repetitive direct or indirect trauma, which is mostly seen in sports with more dorsal extension and twisting movements, such as javelin, high jump, basketball, and so on. (3) Anterior internal impingement syndrome of the ankle joint: mainly bony impingement (mostly caused by various traumas), soft tissue impingement (impingement due to granulation tissue and scar formation after ankle sprain). (4) Posterior ankle impingement syndrome: mainly due to repeated or acute toe flexion injuries of the ankle joint, resulting in the talus and its surrounding tissues being squeezed and impinged, and ballet dancers often suffer from this syndrome. 2. Lateral collateral ligament injury of ankle joint: including lateral collateral ligament injury, medial collateral ligament and lower tibiofibular ligament injury. Lateral collateral ligament injury of ankle is the most common trauma in daily life, especially lateral collateral ligament sprain, which is mainly caused by unstable walking. In addition to the above reasons, achalasia, flatfoot, diabetic foot, etc. can also cause swelling and pain in the right ankle. It is recommended to go to the hospital in time, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and then give targeted treatment.
