Can sweating cause low fluid in abdominal dialysis

Excessive sweating can potentially lead to a decrease in ultrafiltration of peritoneal dialysis fluid, or even a negative peritoneal dialysis override. Peritoneal dialysis is a treatment that partially replaces the function of the kidneys by removing excess toxins as well as water from the body. If there is excess water in the body, the semi-permeable membrane function of the peritoneum can increase the peritoneal dialysis fluid, thus eliminating the excess water in the body. However, if there is less excess water in the body, especially during the summer months when sweating is high, the ultrafiltration of the peritoneal fluid can be reduced. If the peritoneal fluid is retained in the abdomen for too long, even negative hyperfiltration of peritoneal fluid can occur. In addition to this there can be a decrease in dialysate due to a decrease in peritoneal function. If negative hyperfiltration occurs repeatedly, it is recommended to consult a nephrology specialist clinic for peritoneal function tests, and adjust the concentration of peritoneal dialysis fluid and the regimen according to the peritoneal function.
