What does multiple groups of paranasal sinusitis mean

Paranasal sinuses, now collectively referred to as sinuses. Multiple groups of paranasal sinusitis is a condition in which more than two or more groups of sinus cavities have an inflammatory infection of the mucous membranes.

The sinuses are air-containing cavities located in the skull around the nasal cavity. There are four groups of paranasal sinuses in the human body, including the maxillary, sieve, pterygoid, and frontal sinuses. When the mucous membranes in the sinus cavities are infected by bacteria, an inflammatory disease can develop, which can manifest itself in symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, headache, and impaired sense of smell.

The examination of sinusitis will show that the nasal mucosa is congested, there will be a large amount of pus in the nasal passages, and a CT scan will show that there are low-density soft tissue shadows in the sinus cavities. If there is infection in more than two groups of paranasal sinus cavities, it is called multigroup sinusitis.

Sinusitis can be treated by drugs, the application of antibiotics and anti-infection treatment, nasal spray hormone to reduce the mucosal edema of the nasal cavity and sinuses; nasal decongestant to reduce edema, open the sinus openings; the application of mucus to promote the discharge of secretions, with the nasal rinsing and traditional Chinese medicine can achieve good therapeutic effect.

If the effect of standardized drug treatment is not good, or accompanied by nasal polyps, sinuses with obvious structural abnormalities, or the emergence of orbital and cranial complications, surgical treatment is required, and most of them use functional nasal endoscopic surgery.
