What is tuberous sclerosis?

Tuberous sclerosis, also known as Bourneville disease, is mostly autosomal dominant and is characterized by glial nodules of the central nervous system, cutaneous sebaceous adenomas and tumors of other organs.       The typical symptoms are: reddish sebaceous adenomas on the face with a butterfly-shaped distribution, seizures, and mental retardation. Angiofibroma is a characteristic skin lesion of the face, also known as Pringle’s sebaceous adenoma. The lesions are mostly located in the nasolabial folds and on both sides of the nose, and are often tough, scattered yellowish or reddish capillary dilated papules of 1-10 mm in size. This lesion can be treated by laser with good results.
