A liver stiffness of 8.7 kPa, which is outside the normal range, usually indicates the presence of mild liver fibrosis, and ultimately requires pathologic examination to confirm the diagnosis. Liver fibrosis is a pathological phenomenon, which is a proliferation of fibrous connective tissue in the liver caused by localized stimulation of the liver, and is commonly seen in viral hepatitis, alcoholism, and autoimmune liver diseases. Transient elastography of the liver is a non-invasive test for diagnosing liver fibrosis, with normal values ranging from 2.8 to 7.4 kPa, and 8.7 kPa exceeding the normal value, which usually suggests that there is mild fibrosis in the liver. However, this test has a certain degree of error. Liver biopsy is the gold standard for liver fibrosis diagnosis, and ultimately, pathology is required to confirm the diagnosis by a professional doctor.
