When urination occurs when coughing, then the possible causes: 1. If the patient is a male, then filling incontinence is highly suspected, which means that a large amount of urine is retained in the bladder and cannot be discharged. In this case, when the patient coughs, the pressure in the abdomen increases and when it is transmitted to the bladder, the bladder pressure rises and exceeds the closing pressure of the urethra, then involuntary urinary incontinence occurs. It is often seen in patients with prostate enlargement combined with urinary retention. 2. If the patient is a woman, the presence of stress urinary incontinence is considered. Relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles occurs due to women growing older or having multiple children. This is when the bladder urethra moves down and the pressure of the urethral closure decreases. When coughing occurs, the abdominal pressure rises and is transmitted to the bladder, where the bladder pressure rises sharply and exceeds the urethral closure pressure, and involuntary urination occurs. It is recommended that a urodynamic examination or a detailed physical examination be performed to find out if there is bladder or urethral prolapse.
