How to do psychological counseling during isolation of suspected patients?

The suspected patient’s isolation period, the belief of victory must be firm; isolation situation must be accepted, the fight against the virus needs motivation. Active communication is good, breathing exercises reduce stress; bad habits must be changed, seek medical help early. –Because of the long incubation period of the novel coronavirus infection, there is a group of patients who will be given priority attention in the treatment, and they are suspected patients. Patients with suspected symptoms are currently under isolation for observation. While in isolation, they may feel helpless, lonely, angry, or even refuse treatment or behave violently. At this point, then, the psychological guidance of suspected patients during isolation becomes particularly important. 1. Positive adjustment of self-perception, firm belief in overcoming the virus Suspected patients are not the same as confirmed cases. Human emotions are often influenced by the way they are perceived. When bad emotions come, tell yourself to stop. You need to avoid dwelling on the bad emotions at this time, otherwise you will be trapped in a negative cognitive and emotional cycle. Not only that, but the symptoms of infection such as fever, lack of oxygen, and cough that are being experienced at this moment can also exacerbate negative emotions. Professor Cao Bin, Executive Vice President of the Institute of Respiratory Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, pointed out that we had defeated SARS, and this epidemic has made great progress in diagnosis, treatment and prevention and control technology, and the country has supported it from all aspects, so we are confident that we will win again. 2. Accept the isolation situation and strengthen the motivation to fight against the virus Isolation will lead to depression and uncomfortable, which is a natural reaction when people face a difficult situation or adversity, do not blame yourself or blame others for this, but first accept it and sublimate this pain into the motivation to fight against the virus. Being isolated is not only necessary for the sake of others and to win the battle against the virus, but also to better treat and protect ourselves (during hospitalization for non-communicable diseases, it is also a relative isolation compared to usual). 3. Make an unsolicited phone call to improve your mood through communication and mutual support If face-to-face contact is not possible, make a phone call to a trusted loved one, friend or supportive resource in your community; or call a friend or family member you think may be in need and distract yourself by talking with them. Sometimes, taking the initiative to call and give support to others or calling for help is a great way to help yourself improve your mood and not block the love connection because you are embarrassed. 4. Do breathing exercises regularly to lower stress and improve concentration Try to slow yourself down, you can bring your attention to your breathing. Intentionally bring attention to the abdomen, do a few deep and long abdominal breathing, which helps to reduce stress, improve bad mood and improve attention. 5. Change bad behavior habits, soothe and improve emotions As long as physical condition allows, often stand up or get out of bed, stretch your body, walk around, do something that you usually want to do but do not have time to do, find the fun of it, so as to improve their mood. 6. Seek professional psycho-psychological help in time If the bad mood situation continues for more than two weeks and still cannot be relieved, or feel more and more serious, please propose to the treatment manager to seek help from psycho-psychologists or counselors as soon as possible to avoid serious consequences of bad psychology or mood.
