Principles of car-t therapy

The principle of CAR-T therapy is to modify T-cells isolated from the patient’s body through genetic engineering technology, so that they can specifically recognize tumor cells in the body, and then the T-cells are expanded and infused back into the patient’s body to kill tumor cells.
CAR-T is “Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Cells”, CAR-T therapy belongs to cell therapy, is a new immunotherapy, mainly used for the treatment of tumors, the principle of CAR-T is to isolate and purify the T cells in the peripheral blood cells of patients with tumors, and then through the virus will be specific recognition of tumor cells and activate the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell, which is a new type of immunotherapy. The chimeric antigen receptor (CAR), which can specifically recognize tumor cells and activate T cells, is then transferred into T cells by virus.
The successfully transfected T-cells are then screened for expansion to make a “targeted weapon”, and finally the modified T-cells are infused back into the patient’s body to play a normal immune role and kill tumor cells.
Currently, most CAR-T therapies are still in the clinical trial stage, and there are serious adverse reactions, including cytokine release syndrome, neurotoxicity, allergic reactions, etc. However, CAR-T therapy is undoubtedly a new hope for cancer treatment.
