However, for larger stones, medication is often ineffective and surgery is the most fundamental treatment. Ursodeoxycholic acid tablets and goose deoxycholic acid tablets can limit the activity of hydroxy-methylglutaryl coenzyme, so that cholesterol synthesis and secretion is reduced, and it can reduce the solubility of cholesterol in order to dissolve cholesterol stones, and it also has a certain effect on mixed stones. Once the volume of dissolved stones is reduced, they can be discharged from the bile ducts into the gastrointestinal tract and then out of the body. However, medication does not prevent recurrence of gallstones and is less effective for large stones. Surgery is generally recommended for gallstones.
