Are multiple thyroid nodules serious?

The severity of multiple thyroid nodules is related to the size and nature of the nodules. If the nature of the nodule is malignant, it is generally more serious; if the nodule is large and produces compression symptoms, it is also more serious; if it is a benign and asymptomatic thyroid nodule, it is generally not serious, and regular review is sufficient. Ultrasound is the most important imaging tool for evaluating thyroid nodules. Ultrasound can determine whether the nodule is single or multiple, the size of the nodule, the morphologic features of the nodule, and the blood supply of the nodule. By evaluating the morphological features of the nodule, sometimes in conjunction with its blood supply characteristics, ultrasound can help determine the risk of malignancy in thyroid nodules. Patients found to have multiple thyroid nodules are advised to seek prompt medical attention.
