The vagina does not become lax after a total hysterectomy because the main cause of vaginal laxity is the reduced tone of the pelvic floor muscles. After hysterectomy, the support of the pelvic cavity is relatively weaker, but it does not cause vaginal laxity. Therefore, women are advised not to do heavy work for two months after hysterectomy and to rest in bed to avoid pelvic organ prolapse; despite hysterectomy, they should have a gynecological examination once a year to find out if there are any other abnormalities in the pelvic cavity. If the vagina becomes locally lax, it is recommended to do anal lifting exercises or pelvic floor rehabilitation, mainly through electrical stimulation to restore the muscle tone to normal.
