How long does it take to operate on a herniated disc in the lumbar spine?

Patients suffering from lumbar disc herniation need to be treated surgically, and the duration of surgery depends on the specific procedure. If minimally invasive surgery is performed through discoscopy or foraminoscopy, a simple nucleus pulposus removal will take about 40-50 minutes. If the nucleus pulposus is removed followed by internal fixation using a nail bar system, the procedure takes about 60-70 minutes. If the nucleus pulposus is removed by conventional incision, and decompression, bone grafting, and internal fixation with the nail bar system are also required, the time required is about 90 minutes. During the operation, care should be taken to protect the dura and nerve roots to avoid collateral damage.
