Epiglottitis mostly refers to acute epiglottitis which is an acute inflammation of epiglottis mainly in the supraglottic area, mainly related to pathogenic microbial infection, allergic reaction, spread of infection in peripheral tissues and injury. 1. Infection of pathogenic microorganisms: most epiglottitis is caused by bacterial infection, and some patients may be mixed with viral infection. Infection can lead to inflammation of the epiglottis and thus epiglottitis. 2. Allergic reaction: people with allergies may have localized inflammation after contacting allergens in the epiglottis, resulting in obvious edema of the local mucous membrane, and the patients may have obvious swallowing pain, and in severe cases, even develop respiratory difficulties. 3. Spread of infection in the surrounding tissues: If the tracheal tissues around the epiglottis are infected, the infection may spread to invade the epiglottis, such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, etc., resulting in inflammation of the epiglottis as well. 4. Trauma: burns, scratches, chemically irritating gases or liquids may cause damage to the epiglottis, resulting in localized inflammation. If the patient has difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, breathing difficulties, etc., must immediately go to the hospital, under the guidance of the doctor for standardized diagnosis and treatment, do not delay, so as not to cause life-threatening.
