How to treat cough with phlegm in young children

It is very common for young children to have a cough with phlegm. A cough with phlegm indicates that the child is suffering from a respiratory disease, an acute upper respiratory infection, also known as a cold or bronchitis pneumonia, can cause this symptom. When a baby coughs with phlegm, the first thing to do is to clarify whether it is caused by a cold or bronchitis and pneumonia, and then treat it symptomatically after a clear diagnosis. If the cough with phlegm is caused by a cold, mostly white phlegm, in this case, give the child more plain water, pay attention to keeping warm, eat a light diet that is easy to digest, and keep the air in the room moist, then you can pat the baby’s phlegm, and do not recommend taking cough medicine or nebulizing. If your baby has phlegm, pay special attention not to use cough suppressants because they will affect the discharge of phlegm and make the condition worse. If your child has cough and phlegm caused by bronchitis or pneumonia, first of all, pay attention to the pathogen to do the treatment. If it is a bacterial infection, you must actively control the infection, and on the basis of controlling the infection, pay attention to the child’s cough and phlegm, and if it is more serious, you can consider nebulization treatment, but at present, cough and phlegm medicine is not recommended internationally. If your child has a cough with phlegm, you should first clarify what is causing it, and then treat the cough and phlegm on the basis of active treatment of the primary cause. If it is caused by a bacterial infection, antibiotics are also needed, and only by controlling the infection can we finally achieve the purpose of curing the disease.
