Does Desensitization for Allergic Rhinitis Work

Allergic rhinitis is an allergic disorder of the nasal mucosa that occurs in atopic individuals after exposure to allergens. Desensitization therapy for allergic rhinitis has proven useful, but is only suitable for some patients with well-defined allergens and follows a standardized approach in order to gradually achieve the best therapeutic results. This treatment involves subcutaneous injection or sublingual administration of specific allergens in repeated and incremental doses to increase the patient’s tolerance to the sensitizing allergens, with the goal of achieving no further flare-ups after re-exposure to the sensitizing allergens, or flare-ups with a significant reduction in symptoms. The course of treatment is divided into a dose-accumulation phase and a dose-maintenance phase, and the total course of treatment is generally recommended to be more than 2 years. Injection method, the main adverse reactions are localized itching, redness, swelling and hardness, and severe induced urticaria, asthma attack.
