How are congenital cataracts diagnosed and treated early?

Congenital cataracts are cataracts that occur in children within 1 year of birth. Because of its early onset, it seriously affects the visual development of children. Cataracts are responsible for 22-30% of blind children, ranking second in the list of causes of childhood blindness. Early diagnosis and reasonable treatment are the keys to prevent and treat congenital cataracts in children with amblyopia: 1. For infants and children with strabismus, white pupils or nystagmus, be alert to the presence of cataracts. For children with severe cataract, cataract removal surgery should be performed as early as possible, preferably within 2 to 3 months after birth. 3.Select the surgical method: posterior capsulotomy and anterior vitrectomy can effectively prevent the occurrence of posterior cataract and provide good conditions for the later visual development of the child. 4.Post-operative optometry is needed to correct post-operative refractive error, otherwise the effect of surgery is very little. Optometry should be performed every six months to one year to adjust the degree of glasses in time to adapt to the refractive changes brought about by the development of the eye. 5. Actively perform amblyopia treatment under the guidance of a professional physician. 6. Generally, IOL implantation will be performed at the age of 2 years. Non-infantile children can have IOL implantation at the same time or in phase II according to their condition. Congenital cataracts may be familial or disseminated cases. Prohibiting consanguineous marriage, emphasizing perinatal health care, and preventing viral infection in the first 3 months of pregnancy are powerful measures to reduce the occurrence of congenital cataracts.
