Is a large stomach caused by spleen or kidney deficiency?

A large belly cannot be judged to be caused by spleen or kidney deficiency. Many reasons can lead to a large belly, which can be categorized as physiological or pathological. Physiological tummy enlargement may be caused by fat accumulation due to poor diet, or physiological protrusion of the abdomen due to old age or postpartum. Pathological tummy enlargement may be caused by accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, stagnation of qi and blood, and other factors. Spleen deficiency or kidney deficiency cannot be judged based on the size of the stomach, but needs to be analyzed based on other clinical symptoms. For patients with spleen deficiency, the clinical symptoms may be accompanied by a large stomach. Due to spleen deficiency, water and dampness cannot be properly transported and transformed, resulting in accumulation in the abdomen and causing a large stomach, accompanied by symptoms such as inappetence, vomiting and diarrhea, fatigue (tiredness), and a tongue with teeth marks. Kidney deficiency generally does not lead to a large stomach, and clinical symptoms such as lumbar and knee soreness and weakness (the feeling of soreness and weakness in the waist and knees), weakness of the lower limbs, tinnitus and night sweating (sweating abnormally after going to sleep, and sweating stops after waking up), and forgetfulness and insomnia are common. Therefore, you can’t look at the size of your stomach to determine whether you have spleen deficiency or kidney deficiency, you need to consult a doctor in a regular hospital and make a diagnosis and treatment based on the doctor’s observation and examination, don’t judge the condition on your own, and use medication arbitrarily, in order to avoid adverse reactions and delay of the condition.
