Is oxygen necessary for patients with emphysema?

Oxygen inhalation is very necessary for patients with emphysema. Clinically, emphysema is divided into physiologic emphysema and pathologic emphysema, physiologic emphysema is related to ageing, and is prone to shortness of breath after activity, and severe dyspnea can occur. Long-term home oxygen therapy is given to effectively protect lung function and delay the occurrence of coronary heart disease. Pathologic emphysema and obstructive emphysema are the most common, most commonly seen in chronic smokers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, prone to coughing, coughing up sputum, wheezing, and progressive dyspnea, requiring long-term home oxygen therapy. If type II respiratory failure occurs, noninvasive ventilator-assisted ventilation can be given to improve the patient’s pulmonary ventilation and protect the oxygen supply to multiple organs and tissues throughout the body. Long-term home oxygenation for emphysema patients has more benefits, mainly to protect lung function, delay the occurrence of pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary heart disease, prolong the survival period of patients, and improve the quality of life of patients.
