The possibility of epilepsy cannot be ruled out when a child has frequent movements of the arms and legs while sleeping. However, considering that the central nervous system of the brain is gradually developing, it may be normal for children to move their arms and legs after sleeping. Therefore, we need to analyze the situation on a case-by-case basis. If the child usually has a normal diet, a good mental state and good motor performance, then the movement of the arms and legs after falling asleep can be considered normal. Usually, as the child develops and grows older, and the central nervous system is further developed, such cases will gradually decrease or disappear. Epilepsy not only causes twitching of the arms and legs after falling asleep, but it is also associated with other symptoms, such as poor mental status after waking up, dazedness, disorientation, sudden termination of speech and activities, and eyes rolled up, pale face, and other abnormalities. When epilepsy is suspected, parents should take their children to the neurology department of the hospital as soon as possible, and perform EEG, CT or MRI examinations to determine the appropriate treatment plan based on the results.
