How is the lack of cognition in patients with coronary heart disease a cause for concern?

Coronary heart disease is a common, frequent and affluent disease, yet the lack of awareness of coronary heart disease prevention and treatment among coronary heart disease patients is a cause for concern. A nationwide survey by a coronary heart disease consultation center found that calls from more than 500 consultants across the country showed that nearly 60% of patients with confirmed coronary heart disease frequently experienced chest pain, shortness of breath and other symptoms despite adhering to drug treatment. The hotline also found that many patients would rather believe in the information of various treatment advertisements than seek formal treatment in a timely manner, and at the same time lack knowledge or have doubts about some new treatment methods for coronary heart disease. These are obstacles to the early prevention of cardiovascular events. Fear of surgery and preference for medication The treatment methods for cardiovascular disease are divided into: medication, interventional therapy and surgery. Currently, there is no fully effective drug treatment for coronary atherosclerosis. Taking nitroglycerin and other nitrate coronary vasodilators can relieve angina, but the disadvantage is that it cannot fundamentally improve the narrowing of blood vessels caused by coronary atherosclerosis. Therefore, some patients will experience chest pain or a feeling of tightness and pressure in the chest if they overexert themselves or exercise. The survey shows that some patients are often misled by many false advertisements after they feel that medication is not effective, and take medication on their own without consulting doctors. Some patients stop taking medication on their own when they feel fine in order to save money. Experts point out that the key to coronary heart disease drug treatment is to adhere to the medication and get rid of bad habits. Patients who have been diagnosed with coronary artery disease must insist on taking medications to dilate coronary arteries, anticoagulate and prevent embolism, lower blood pressure and lipid to control hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia, as well as insist on proper exercise, quit smoking and limit alcohol, and maintain psychological balance to prevent the development of the disease. In addition, most of the coronary heart disease patients who called the hotline are not unfamiliar with traditional coronary artery bypass surgery (referred to as coronary artery bypass), but they have fear. According to the introduction, coronary artery bypass grafting is to take a blood vessel from other parts of the patient will be transplanted to the part of the coronary artery stenosis, the transplanted blood vessel is like a bridge between the aorta and the coronary artery. After bypass surgery, a good blood supply can be re-established, and blood is transported from the aorta to the distal end of the blocked coronary artery through the “bridge” built. However, because the procedure requires opening the chest, patients are afraid of the pain and risks involved, so many patients are reluctant to undergo this procedure and prefer to receive medication. The surgical techniques of China’s major coronary artery bypass centers have reached the international advanced level, with a success rate of 98-99%, especially in recent years, minimally invasive beating heart bypass surgery has made bypass surgery safer and more effective for elderly patients with severe coronary heart disease. Only 20% of patients have heard of coronary angiography On the other hand, coronary angiography technology is now unanimously considered by domestic and foreign experts as one of the most reliable methods to confirm the diagnosis of coronary heart disease, called the “gold standard”. According to the introduction, this method has been clinically applied in foreign countries for more than 40 years. It is to insert a small catheter through a skin puncture vessel, and under the guidance of X-ray fluoroscopy, the catheter is sent to the opening of the coronary artery, and then the contrast agent is injected, and after imaging under X-ray, the lesion of the coronary artery can be understood at a glance, and it can provide a basis for the selection of further treatment plan. Experts point out that coronary angiography is less invasive and less painful for patients, and most patients can complete the examination without realizing it, and there is no obvious discomfort, and the whole operation only takes ten minutes. In addition, if the doctor finds a stenosis or blockage in the patient’s coronary artery and the lesion is suitable, interventional treatment can be performed immediately to reopen the vessel. However, surveys show that many patients are not aware of coronary angiography and stent intervention techniques, and only 20% of coronary heart disease consultants have heard of this treatment, and some people mistakenly equate stent intervention with the nature of surgical bypass surgery. According to statistics, the number of patients with coronary heart disease in China is estimated to be more than 20 million, while only about 100,000 patients receive coronary angiography every year, which shows that the application of coronary angiography, interventional techniques and bypass surgery treatment in China still needs to be popularized.
