How long can you live after surgery for mid-stage gastric cancer?

It is impossible to generalize the survival time of intermediate gastric cancer after surgery; those with poor curative effect may only survive for 2-3 years, while those with better curative effect may survive for about 5-10 years. The survival time after surgery for mid-stage gastric cancer varies greatly among individuals, which is related to the stage of gastric cancer, pathological type, treatment plan, and whether the individual is combined with chronic diseases, etc. Most patients can survive for 2-3 years. In addition, the treatment of gastric cancer is a comprehensive treatment mainly based on surgery and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy, which can effectively reduce recurrence and metastasis. If the gastric cancer cells are highly differentiated type, with standardized chemotherapy, the 10-year survival can reach 35%. If the cancer cells are hypofractionated and no follow-up treatment is performed, the 10-year survival rate is less than 5%. Middle stage of gastric cancer belongs to stage II or III. The earlier the stage, the better the treatment effect, so early treatment is recommended. Patients with gastric cancer need to pay more attention to their diet, which is mainly light, and pay attention to more high-protein and high-fiber foods.
