Do gallstones cause bowel movements and farts?

Gallstones can be categorized into gallbladder stones and bile duct stones, but both usually do not cause symptoms of increased bowel movements and gas in patients.
Most patients with gallbladder stones usually have no obvious clinical symptoms, or only mild symptoms such as abdominal distension and right upper abdominal discomfort. When the stone is embedded in the gallbladder duct, it can cause biliary colic, which is characterized by paroxysmal colic pain in the right upper abdomen, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Complicated infections are characterized by fever, right upper abdominal pain, jaundice and other symptoms, and usually do not cause bowel sounds and increased gas.
Bile duct stones can be further categorized into choledocholithiasis and intrahepatic bile duct stones, which have similar symptoms, but the former usually has more severe symptoms. Choledocholithiasis can cause acute cholangitis, which is characterized by high fever, right upper abdominal pain, obvious jaundice, and when it develops into acute obstructive septic cholangitis, it can also lead to coma, shock, and even life-threatening. However, it is not uncommon to have bowel sounds and increased gas emissions.
Increased bowel sounds and flatulence can be caused by physiologic conditions such as eating irritating foods or foods that produce a lot of gas, as well as by intestinal disorders such as ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and so on.
It is recommended to seek medical advice as soon as possible to identify the cause and treat it accordingly.
