Can patients with stomach ulcers take aspirin

If the gastric ulcer is in active stage, aspirin is not recommended because aspirin is a non-steroidal drug, which is very damaging to the gastric mucosa, causing ischemia of the gastric mucosa, aggravating the inflammation of the mucosal ulcer, and even inducing gastrointestinal bleeding, which is life-threatening, so it is better for gastric ulcer patients to take aspirin after the ulcer has healed. However, if the patient’s condition requires it, such as having a cardiovascular stent or infarction, and must take aspirin, it is recommended that the patient take aspirin along with PPI preparations and mucosal protectors, and avoid spicy and stimulating foods in the diet to avoid damage to the mucosa. The shape and nature of the patient’s stool must be strictly observed while taking aspirin to observe whether there are tarry stools and also whether there are adverse reactions that may induce gastric ulcer bleeding such as black haze and dizziness. Therefore, patients are not advised to take aspirin if the gastric ulcer is in the acute stage.
