Norfloxacin belongs to the quinolone class of antibiotics, and generally does not have a disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol. It is mainly cephalosporins that can have disulfiram-like reactions with alcohol, so it is contraindicated to take cephalosporins during drinking or to drink alcohol when using cephalosporins. Although there is no clear side effect relationship between norfloxacin and alcohol, it is not recommended to drink alcohol during taking the drug, because alcohol can cause damage to liver cells or occupy part of the liver’s metabolic function, and cause the liver’s detoxification function of the drug to decrease, resulting in the accumulation of drugs in the body, poisoning and so on. Therefore, even if oral norfloxacin or intravenous norfloxacin, alcohol consumption is not recommended. In the drug interaction, alcohol for norfloxacin does not have obvious lethal, or cause patients life threatening side effects, but also do not recommend patients to drink alcohol when taking drugs or drinking alcohol when taking drugs.
