The female vagina is part of the female internal genitalia and is located right in the middle of the lower part of the pelvis. The female vagina is the organ of sexual intercourse, the channel for the discharge of menstrual blood, and the channel for the delivery of the fetus. The upper part of the vagina is wider, the lower part of the vagina is narrower, the anterior wall is shorter, and the posterior wall of the vagina is longer. The posterior wall is close to the rectum and the anterior wall is close to the bladder. The vaginal wall is made up of mucous membrane, muscle layer and fibrous tissue from the inside out. The mucous membrane has many transverse folds and the vaginal wall has a large stretch and is subject to cyclic changes due to sex hormones. The vaginal wall is rich in venous plexus and bleeds easily or forms hematomas after injury.
