Neuromodulation allows Parkinson’s disease patients to walk

When one speaks of Parkinson’s disease, the image of an elderly person walking slowly, moving stiffly and having arms that tremble constantly comes to mind. Parkinson’s disease is a chronic progressive disabling disease, and patients in advanced stages become paralyzed in bed and die due to various complications. How can we improve the quality of life of patients, so that Parkinson’s patients can walk soundly and live happily? For Parkinson’s disease, the principle of staged treatment should be adopted. In the first few years of the disease, patients are in the “honeymoon period” of medication, when they should use medication, strengthen rehabilitation exercises and psychological counseling, and try to slow down the progress of Parkinson’s disease. With the prolongation of medication time, its drug efficacy is bound to decline; high-dose drugs can improve the efficacy, but drug side effects also increased significantly, which makes patients very painful! At this time, some patients with physical and economic conditions allow, can choose neuromodulation surgery treatment! Some patients with Parkinson’s disease are unfamiliar with neuromodulation surgery, and even fear it, because they do not understand this type of surgery. Neuromodulation surgery is a minimally invasive and precise surgery in neurosurgery, and is also a relatively safe type of surgery. It is mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1, accurate positioning, using CT/MRI/DTI fusion positioning technology, can accurately locate the nuclei to be modulated, such as the thalamic nucleus and pallidum, with an error of only 0.01 mm. 2.Small trauma, only 3 cm incision and 8 mm bone hole are needed in the head, through which millimeter-level modulating electrodes can be delivered to the corresponding nuclei, and the total surgical bleeding is only more than 10 ml. 3, high efficiency, postoperative to 1 month, the patient will experience the efficacy of surgery, that is, stiffness relief is obvious, limb tremor disappears, Parkinson’s medication is reduced. Our department has carried out neuromodulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease in more than a hundred cases, and 95% of patients have obtained significant improvement of Parkinson’s disease symptoms immediately after surgery, as well as their depression, anxiety and constipation, and their medication dosage has been reduced. In order to achieve better surgical efficacy, the selection of a good indication for surgery is key. Preoperatively, the patient should be consulted in detail, carefully examined and examined carefully, and then preoperative evaluation and psychological counseling should be conducted; for patients with surgical indications, the patient should be taught how to cooperate with the surgery before surgery in order to achieve better results. After surgery, it is still necessary to strengthen psychological guidance and rehabilitation training in order to consolidate the therapeutic effect. Treatment of Parkinson’s disease requires full management, the patient, the patient’s family and the doctor should participate in the development of treatment plans, three-way assistance, the patient can really walk up.
