What does thickening of the wall of the colon mean?

Colonic wall thickening is generally defined as a colon wall thickness greater than 6mm, and is usually caused by inflammation or tumors. If the wall thickening is due to colitis, the cause is likely to be inflammation of the intestines, and the clinical symptoms are often accompanied by abdominal pain and diarrhea. Imaging will show thickening of the colon wall, which is usually due to edema. Inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, will also appear in the phenomenon of thickening of the colon wall, mostly caused by long-term chronic inflammatory stimulation. Colon cancer and a few lymphomas can also present with thickening of the colon wall. Imaging of thickening of the colon wall, should also be combined with specific history and clinical manifestations in order to determine the specific cause of the disease, it is recommended to go to the regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
