The growth of human height is mainly affected by two factors: the length of the spine and the length of the lower limbs; and the growth of the lower limbs depends on the growth of the epiphyseal cartilage. The epiphysis grows at the joints, such as the knee, ankle and hip joints, and height growth pains occur at these locations, and can be felt as discomfort, fatigue and even pain in the hip bone, especially at night. The knee joint may also become painful and uncomfortable when moving, often at the tibial tuberosity below the knee and at the ankle joint. Some fast-growing adolescents may also experience mild swelling of the joint. Once growing pains occur, it is important to focus on nutrition, sleep, and proper exercise to make the pain go away faster.
