Every year on World Stroke Day, the Ministry of Health of China launches a series of campaigns around World Stroke Day to raise awareness of stroke prevention and control, promote healthy lifestyle behaviors, and achieve early prevention, diagnosis and treatment of stroke. The theme of 2011 is “Stroke Awareness, Act Now”. The First People’s Hospital of Changzhou City, a clinical neurology center for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, has been offering free consultation, distributing popular stroke reading materials and conducting health education on this day every year. Stroke, also known as stroke and cerebrovascular accident, is divided into two categories: cerebral ischemic stroke and cerebral hemorrhagic stroke, such as hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral aneurysm rupture and cerebral infarction, etc. It is a disease with high morbidity, high mortality, high disability and high recurrence rate, and is known as the “number one killer of human health”. Every 6 people in the world will experience a stroke in their lifetime; every 6 seconds a stroke takes the life of a person; every 1 second a stroke strikes a person regardless of gender and age; every year 15 million people have a stroke 6 million people die from stroke; 30 million people are disabled by stroke. According to the World Health Organization, the incidence of stroke in China is 219 per 100,000 people per year, which is significantly higher than the world average. In the Beijing area, the incidence of stroke is nearly 700 per 100,000 population, which is among the highest in the country and in large international cities. Every year, more than 2 million people die of stroke in China, and there are tens of millions of stroke survivors, 75% of whom are left with permanent disabilities. How many families and how many people’s lives are affected by these numbers? In fact, stroke is not scary, but it is afraid that we do not know how to prevent it, what are the symptoms of stroke, how to give first aid after stroke, how to treat stroke, and how to rehabilitate the dysfunction left behind, so we miss the three gates of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation to overcome stroke. The following two “6” rules should be noted in your daily life to prevent stroke. Six measures to reduce the risk of stroke: 1. know your personal risk factors such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, high blood sugar; 2. be active and exercise regularly; 3. maintain a healthy diet to avoid obesity; 4. moderate alcohol consumption; 5. don’t smoke, and if you smoke, quit now; 6. learn to recognize the precursors of stroke. Six warning signs or aura of stroke: 1. sudden numbness and weakness of one limb; 2. sudden difficulty in speaking or understanding language; 3. sudden blurred vision or double vision in one or both eyes; 4. sudden difficulty in walking or loss of balance; 5. sudden vertigo; 6. sudden severe headache. If these signs appear, you should go to a hospital immediately for further examination to avoid stroke. Once a stroke occurs, “time is brain” – the time window for stroke treatment is limited, you must immediately call the emergency number and race to the cerebrovascular disease center of the hospital where you can get treatment. Do not think that the problem can be solved by infusion, because the brain cells tolerate ischemic damage very poorly, just a few hours delay may lose the best treatment time, resulting in lifelong hemiplegia or death, and then it is too late to regret. By changing bad habits and developing good living habits, such as reasonable diet, moderate exercise, psychological balance, stop smoking and limiting alcohol, you can stay away from stroke and enjoy a healthy life.
