If you are scratched by a golden bear, you need to disinfect the wound immediately and get a rabies vaccination promptly. Because all mammals can contract and transmit rabies, a person needs to be vaccinated against rabies within 24 hours of being scratched, whether or not the golden bear has been vaccinated. This is because if the rabies virus is present in a golden bear’s, it may invade the nerves through the scratched area, which can lead to rabies. In addition, golden bears may carry the tetanus virus and it is best to get a tetanus antitoxin shot at the same time. When a golden bear scratches its hand, it is recommended that the patient seek medical attention promptly to avoid delay. Do not eat spicy and other stimulating foods, drink alcohol, tea, or do strenuous exercise during rabies vaccination.
