What’s with the swollen face during menopause?

Swelling of face during menopause has more causes, which may be related to the decline of ovarian function, liver diseases such as cirrhosis and kidney diseases such as nephritis.
1. Decline of ovarian function: After the decline of ovarian function, the secretion of estrogen and progesterone is out of order, which may lead to water and sodium retention, thus resulting in swelling of the face. This kind of facial swelling is usually heavier in the morning and gradually decreases with activities.
2. Liver disease: when the liver is abnormal, such as cirrhosis, it will lead to a decrease in albumin synthesis by the liver, a decrease in plasma osmolality, and the accumulation of fluid in the interstitial space of the tissues, which will lead to the symptoms of edema.
3. Kidney disease: when the kidneys have abnormalities, such as nephritis, it will lead to a reduction in glomerular filtration, so that the discharge of water and sodium is reduced, resulting in different degrees of edema in the lax part of the tissue.
Swollen face is not necessarily related to menopause, but may also be the cause of disease, it is recommended to go to the hospital to improve the relevant examination, under the guidance of a professional doctor to identify the cause of the disease, targeted treatment.
