Is thyroid cancer advanced once it has metastasized?

Thyroid cancer that has metastasized is not necessarily advanced, but can also be early to mid-stage. Whether thyroid cancer metastasis is advanced or not is related to the type of thyroid cancer and the age of the patient. Common thyroid cancers include medullary thyroid carcinoma, follicular thyroid carcinoma and papillary thyroid carcinoma. If metastasis occurs in medullary thyroid cancer, it is usually in advanced stage, while metastasis of follicular thyroid cancer and papillary thyroid cancer should be analyzed in conjunction with the patient’s age. Generally speaking, follicular thyroid carcinoma and papillary thyroid carcinoma with the age of 44 or below are mostly in the early stage, not in the advanced stage when metastasis occurs. They can be treated by surgical resection and have a better prognosis. Follicular thyroid cancer and papillary thyroid cancer aged 45 and above with metastasis are in advanced stage. It is recommended to consult doctor in time when neck discomfort occurs and standardize treatment under professional doctor’s guidance to avoid delaying the condition.
