How to correct a child’s strabismus

Depending on the degree and type of strabismus, children with strabismus need to choose the appropriate treatment, which can be corrected with glasses or surgery. Strabismus is a disease of the extraocular muscles and is categorized into three types: upward and downward strabismus, internal strabismus, and external strabismus. Children with strabismus may experience discomfort such as double vision. If a child suffers from accommodative strabismus, i.e., internal strabismus caused by refractive error, the refractive error can be corrected by prescription lenses, thus balancing the eye position. Non-adjustable strabismus and paralytic strabismus require surgical correction, such as rectus muscle reduction, to balance the eye position. After surgery, patients should follow the doctor’s instructions for postoperative care, regular checkups, and timely consultation if discomfort occurs. It is recommended that patients with strabismus should consult a doctor in a timely manner to assess their condition and choose the appropriate treatment under the doctor’s guidance.
