Colostomy is a relatively common surgical procedure, and there are two main types of colostomy. One is the permanent colostomy, which uses the descending colon through the left lower abdominal opening, and the other is the temporary colostomy. The scope of patients or surgical indications for permanent fistulas is usually for malignant tumors of the lower rectum or anal canal that require radical resection of rectal cancer by combined transabdominal perineal surgery. Temporary fistulas can be used for the transverse colon, descending colon, or even the sigmoid colon. It is usually used when there is intestinal obstruction or intestinal rupture, when anastomosis is not possible during the first-stage surgery, or when anastomotic fistula is likely to occur after anastomosis. After repairing the inflammation and infection in the abdominal cavity, the fistula can be treated with an elective return surgery to cure the disease.
