Trigeminal nerve is a mixed cerebral nerve that conducts superficial sensations, with typical clinical manifestations, mainly in the face and frontal region. If the lesion involves the sensory nerves innervating the back of the ear, there can be trigeminal nerve pain behind the ear. The trigeminal nerve is a mixed brain nerve that conducts superficial sensations, such as pain, temperature, and touch. The trigeminal nerve is generally located in the skin of the face, the oro-nasal cavity, the eyes, the mucous membranes of the paranasal sinuses, and the meninges, and consists of three major branches: the ophthalmic nerve, the maxillary nerve, and the mandibular nerve. Trigeminal neuralgia is often cut-like, electric shock-like pain, usually trigeminal neuralgia to the second and third branch is more common, to the face, corners of the mouth, nose, tongue as a sensitive area, a light touch can be triggered, known as the “trigger point” performance. If the lesion involves the corresponding branch, there can be pain in the ear. When the disease is aggravated, there may be painful twitching of the facial muscles, and the corner of the mouth is pulled to the affected side, accompanied by clinical manifestations such as tearing, drooling, facial flushing, and conjunctival congestion. If trigeminal nerve pain behind the ear occurs, it is recommended to go to the hospital for a more comprehensive examination and timely treatment.
