Can abdominal ct detect stomach and bowel cancer?

Abdominal CT can only be used as a screening test for stomach cancer and intestinal cancer, but cannot be used as a basis for confirming the diagnosis.

For stomach cancer, if it is early stomach cancer, it is difficult to be detected by abdominal CT. When stomach cancer develops to a certain degree, the thickening of the stomach wall or lumps as well as the enlargement of the surrounding lymph nodes can be seen by abdominal CT, so as to judge whether there is any distant metastasis of stomach cancer. Only stomach tissue biopsy is the “gold standard” for stomach cancer diagnosis, which is the basis for confirming the diagnosis.

For intestinal cancer, abdominal CT is an important method to determine the stage of colorectal cancer before operation, which can clearly show the degree of invasion, lymph node metastasis and determine the resectability of the tumor, which is of great significance. And histopathological biopsy can clarify the nature of lesion, which is the basis for the treatment of bowel cancer.

If abdominal CT examination shows abnormality, further examination should be carried out and treatment should be prescribed by doctor if necessary.
