Antihypertensive agents of choice in elderly patients with uncomplicated systolic hypertension

For elderly patients with systolic hypertension without comorbidities, the preferred antihypertensive drugs are calcium channel blockers, which are commonly used clinically, such as nifedipine controlled-release tablets, nifedipine sustained-release tablets, amlodipine, nimodipine, etc. Calcium channel blockers have good antihypertensive efficacy for elderly patients. Diuretics also have good antihypertensive effects on hypertension in the elderly, especially salt-sensitive hypertension. Depending on the blood pressure level and condition, in addition to these two categories, the likes of beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and angiotensin II receptor antagonists are also available. The more commonly used ones in the clinic are betalactam extended-release tablets, enalapril, valsartan, irbesartan and so on.
