Can a cold cause a fever?

Colds can cause fever. Colds are usually caused by viral infections, mainly manifested by sneezing, nasal congestion, running watery nose, but also can be manifested as a cough, dry throat, itchy throat, 2-3 days after the nasal mucus becomes thick, can be accompanied by sore throat, tearing, headache, dull sense of taste, dyspnea, hoarseness and so on. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by fever and chills, which may be aggravated by respiratory bacterial infections. There are no effective antiviral drugs for colds, and symptomatic treatment is the mainstay of treatment, along with quitting smoking, paying attention to rest, drinking plenty of water, maintaining indoor air circulation and preventing secondary bacterial infections. If feverish symptoms occur, additional antipyretic and analgesic drugs, including acetaminophen and ibuprofen, can be used if necessary. If there is any discomfort, patients are advised to go to the hospital in a timely manner to avoid delaying their condition.
