American ginseng, also known as western ginseng, has the effects of tonifying qi and nourishing yin (replenishing qi and nourishing yin fluids), clearing heat and generating fluids, and is used for treating qi deficiency and yin deficiency, deficiency of heat and fatigue, coughing, phlegm and blood, internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied by excessive eating, drinking and urination, etc.), and dry mouth and throat.
However, the efficacy of single herbs boiled in soup is limited and generally cannot achieve the purpose of treating the disease. It is not recommended to take Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng if there is deficiency of Yang in the middle Jiao (weakening of Yang in the middle Jiao, spleen and stomach), obstruction of Cold and Dampness in the middle Jiao (cold and dampness obstructing the middle Jiao, spleen and stomach), or if there is depression of Qi and fire, and it is not recommended to take Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng with Quassia.
