Strictly speaking, cancer metastasis refers to the transfer of tumor to distant organs through blood and lymph; while spread is wider, including local infiltration and direct spread, as well as metastasis. Blood metastasis refers to the tumor cells, after shedding, reach the distant organs through blood circulation, where they are planted and reproduced. Generally speaking, the occurrence of metastasis represents that the tumor reaches an advanced stage with a low cure rate, and it is necessary to go through the hospital-related treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and so on. Lymph node metastasis usually occurs near the tumor, but there are also jumping metastasis, such as left supraclavicular lymph node of gastric cancer; it can be detected by imaging examination or physical examination, and when lymph node metastasis occurs, it usually represents the middle stage of the tumor, or the local advanced stage. As for local infiltration and direct spread, it means that as the malignant tumor keeps growing, the tumor cells often continuously infiltrate and grow along the tissue interstitial space or nerve bundle coat, destroying the neighboring organs or tissues, and this phenomenon is called direct spread. For example, advanced cervical cancer can spread directly to the rectum and bladder. If cancer is diagnosed, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and carry out standardized treatment under the doctor’s guidance in order to improve the prognosis and prolong the survival period.
