Metabolic level generally refers to basal metabolic rate, which can be self-tested using a formula. A total of three formulas are included, as follows: 1. % Basal Metabolic Rate = (Pulse Rate + Pulse Pressure Difference) – 111 (Gale). 2. % Basal Metabolic Rate = 0.75 x (Pulse Rate + Pulse Pressure Difference x 0.74) – 72 (Read). 3. % Basal Metabolic Rate = 1.28 x (Pulse Rate + Pulse Pressure Difference) – 116 (Kosa). In addition, when measuring basal metabolic rate, it is recommended that patients stop taking thyroid preparations and antithyroid medications for 3 days beforehand, do not have too much food for dinner the day before, and get enough sleep at night. On the morning of the self-measurement, patients should not eat, drink or smoke, minimize their activities and walk slowly to the hospital. It is important to note that this test is not recommended if you are suffering from heart failure, pulmonary insufficiency, or other conditions. Metabolic level monitoring should be done under the supervision of a doctor and the results should be interpreted appropriately.
